Raju Soolanayakanahallys, Dr. Raju Soolanayakanahally is a research scientist at Saskatoon Research and Development Centre in Saskatchewan, Canada. Upon receiving his PhD in Forest Sciences from University of British Columbia he joined the Agriculture Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) in 2010. His research focuses on the development and evaluation of new poplar and willow feedstocks for bioenergy opportunities, carbon sequestration and for environmental services such as riparian buffers. Recent efforts include the combination of bio-energy and biochar applications to soil, which offer the opportunity to develop a carbon-negative energy technology which at the same time improves the environment. At AAFC, he and his colleagues look at innovative land management within agricultural systems to provide land owners the economic benefits while achieving agricultural sustainability.
