Colloque 2022 - Séance d'affiches

I am Naveen, from India. I have a bachelor's and master's in forestry, specialization in Silviculture and Agroforestry. I also completed a post-graduation diploma in remote sensing and GIS specialization in forest resources and ecosystem analysis. I am interested in spatial ecology; spatio-temporal modeling of the forest ecosystem.

For my Ph.D., I am working on forest carbon dynamics modeling at the landscape level in the managed boreal forest of Quebec. Studies state that business-as-usual forestry practices are failing or will fail in maintaining the forest structure, composition, and productivity under future climate and natural disturbances. Therefore, the is an urgent need to identify a better alternative forest management strategy. Therefore, the aims of my research are 1) to improve our understanding of carbon dynamics of the managed boreal forest at the landscape level, 2) to better document the trade-offs in forestry practices while increasing the opportunities offered by climate change, and thus better guide the choices for forest managers, and 3) to identify, through landscape modeling, forest management strategies that optimize the mitigation capacity of the boreal forest to future climate.
