Igor Drobyshev a été le directeur du laboratoire de dendroécologie situé à la station de recherche à la FERLD de 2008 à 2022.

Igor participe à de nombreuses recherches en dendroécologie de la forêt boréale et feuillue en différents endroit de l'hémisphère nord. Il s'intéresse particulièrement à la reconstitution historique des feux de forêts, la dendrochronologie et la modélisation climatique. Dans ses temps libres, il s'adonne au soccer.
